1,000 Mile Challenge

An invitation to you all, ladies, gentlemen, walkers, joggers, swimmers, hikers, skier, runners, golfers, cyclists, dancers and of course, keen shoppers and those who recruited by freinds

We are here today to launch the Cairngorm 1,000 mile Challenge in aid of a local charity, the Community Domestic Abuse Programme, CoDAP.
The challenge is , to move , in whatever way suits you best, 1,000 miles in the course of 2008. You have a whole year to clock up the miles, les than 3 miles a day! This is a challenge where the miles in training actually count and you don’t have to leave a heavy carbon footprint by jetting off to south America or Africa to raise funds for charity.

Whilst we are based in the glorious Cairngorms and so will have the opportunity to deepen our experience of the 8 th wonder of the world, this Challenge can take place wherever you are, we have Challengers in Spain , New Zealand and the US all discovering more about their local geography.

This is an exciting opportunity to challenge yourself, against yourself. For some the idea of moving a 1000 miles in a year is daunting, the challenge for you might be to complete a 1,000 miles in the course of the year. For other for whom 1,000 miles is a doddle, the challenge might be to complete them in a month, or a period of time representing a challenge and an achievement, or it might be to include as many different modes of movement as possible.. you might walk some, dance some, shop some, cycle some, whatever combination works for you.
You might like to share the challenge with a friend, sub-let some miles and create a team. In whatever way you decide to carry this out we are deeply grateful.

CoDAP benefits from your experience as you donate or raise through sponsorship 10 pence for every mile you do, to support our work in the community

So, as you see, the greatest joy of this challenge is that it is the ultimate win/win event., Your health and fitness increase and we, CoDAP receive all the 10 pence pieces you donate for each mile you move.

We will be holding fun lunches throughout the year where we will have people who have challenged themselves in some way, coming to share their adventures with us. Also the time and space to share our own experiences.

There will be prizes at the end of the year for the best photo taken , the best story, the best poem written about your experiences while on the challenge:

We would like you to send us stories and pictures throughout the year recording your adventures and these we will share in a newsletter that will be sent by e-mail to you.

Thank you for supporting us in this way and we hope you enjoy the Challenge as much as we are...!
